I’ve been to Kang Nam Japanese Restaurant (5715 Buford Hwy, Doraville) a handful of times now — for both lunch and dinner — and every time I go, I walk away impressed.
It’s a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant, which gives it a unique feel: the menu leans Japanese, but there are Korean touches throughout — from the banchan that come with your meal to dishes like kalbi and spicy squid stir fry that you might not expect at a typical Japanese spot.
🍱 What I’ve Tried (and Loved)
If you go for lunch definitely check out the lunch boxes! They are so epic! Here’s a Kalbi Lunch Box and a Sashimi Lunch Box:

Other than that here are some other favorites…
- Sushi & Sashimi – Fresh, clean cuts with solid rice-to-fish ratio. Great quality every time.
- Kalbi (Korean short ribs) – Tender, flavorful, and perfectly grilled.
- Spicy Squid Stir Fry – Bold and spicy with a satisfying chew. One of my favorites.
- Banchan – A nice variety served with your meal, even during lunch. Everything I’ve tried has been super tasty.

🪑 Private Rooms Are a Hidden Gem
One standout feature at Kang Nam is their private dining rooms — something you don’t see often in casual strip mall spots. They’re perfect for small groups, and it makes the whole experience feel a bit more special and relaxed.
🍴 Lunch vs. Dinner
Lunch is a solid deal — the bento-style sets are affordable and generous. But dinner is when you can explore more of the menu. If you’re going with friends, it’s fun to order a few dishes to share and try both the Japanese and Korean offerings.
If you’re looking for a laid-back Japanese spot with a Korean twist, Kang Nam is definitely worth checking out — whether you’re craving sushi, kalbi, or something spicy and stir-fried.
